One Day Monday

 January First 2024

1+1+20+2+4 =  1. A one day on a Monday at the start of a brand new - please stay tuned - TBD whatever.

a work in progress ....

Today we are announcing The AZML Soup Kitchen; a more public facing enclave. The invitation is out. Come up! Join us on the porch and share some stories with your bread and butter. Always simmering is a perpetual broth made with water from the Fountain of Youth. The fountain, as long been suspected, is simply a spring in the aquifer.

Just add a cup of dry noodle letters, and we'll marinate them in meaning, baste them in bullshit

Swami Veeda announces the AZML Soup Kitchen. It's really the employee cafeteria, but the 'test kitchen' has long been a fixture in the Alphabet Zoupe Memorial Library.

Swami V'da, (Verandananda) gets a phonetic upgrade to Veeda.

Something flashed by the windshield and I pumped the brakes. My art made a little screech as I began work on my first art note doodle commission.

We imagine rotating the bauble a bit,

In the beginning was the word, and the word was made of letters, arranged in a ladle, laid in the Alphabet Zoupe, kettle of creation. Alphabet Soup.

These are no longer dry noodles, but marinated in meaning, and boiled in beliefs, and saturated with stories of the supernatural.

And the ladle is a magic wand. I create as I speak. Abracadabra. Because I said so.

This is what it looks like from my seat at the table.

The 15th Annual Zine Fest 2023

This, the 15th Annual Zine Fest , was my very first. The tables are awarded lottery style. I was aware the whole time that this is the deal. It coincides nearly exactly with the 50th anniversaries of Alphabet Soup and Hobo Day, April 12th. Fifty years.

Glad I was there. I don't think I need to go back. I might toss my name in the hat.

The tables are also split between two vendors. I was tabled with Max Yela, Head of Special Collections, Adjunct Instructor, School of Information Studies. He has spent nearly 40 years at UWM. Max was instrumental in the creation of this first zine fest in Milwaukee.

We were sharing a six foot table. I heard him asking almost anyone that came up for zine donations. Once a collector ....

He was going to collect mine. We We were so busy that it was packing up time before we realized that I had not ... he had not ...

So, we get to go up to UWM and see the collection in person. WooHoooooo.

I brought with me my very first cut and paste collection. I was ten years old. It was Beetle Bailey. It was the most touched thing in the first hour after opening.

My fate was was sealed with grade school glue.

I took it off the rack.

People wanted it.

I said $40k?

Hobo Daze 2022

 For Immediate Release

April 12, 2022, 11:00 AM

Annually at the River, at

the Boat Launch next to

Only Oscar’s Option Lot.

A Treasure Hunt and Tea Time replaces the parade portion of Hobo Daze Parade. The Hobo Day Steering Committee considers dropping the parade facade altogether.

Our first ever Treasure Hunt and Tea Time allows you to go off on your own for hours at a time. Wander about, look for clues. It is designed to bring you home and it starts when you have found as many as you can. Stop and start as you wish. Rest frequently.

Most treasure maps use X’s for the spot. We will tease you with T’s. Them’s the spots.  Let’s go! Make lists of your toys, tools, talents, trinkets, tricks, tremors, terrors, traumas, temptations, tribulations, tokens, totems, talismans, treasures, triumphs, and transcendent times.

In you own words. Here you are.

Home. Safe and sound.

Like so many concerns hard hit by the pandemic, lockdown, and shortages on so many fronts, there is no parade this year at the

49th Annual Hobo Daze Parade.

Management regrets any inconvenience to parade-goers. A new date will be announced, tickets will be honored or refunded.

Rain Checks will be handed out by the box load at Only Oscar’s Option Lot, (where all that is and all that’s not is available all ways).

Please ask for Reverend Les S. Mohr for a blessing on your way out.

….

An image of the 16th Annual ticket just popped up from the archives.

March 2022

Dear Friends and Readers,

In the lasts issue I made some notes that might include:

Intro quotes

Keywords

Retirement

Distractions

Poetry - Legacy

Art

Quotation Memes

Bashar and Seth

Hobo Daze Parade

——- Zoupa Zine ——-

Keywords

I've noticed that moving my words from one place to another often results in a need to edit; to tweak things a bit. It occurs to me that somethings might never get done and if I wish merely to convey an idea I may not need to squeeze it to death.

If I offer you the gist that may well be plenty. It also may well depend on wherever you are in the moment.

——- Zoupa Zine ——-

Retirement

It's wonderful and a bit difficult to explain. It's wonderful.

No need to explain. That alone is wonderful.

It's work in progress. I got time. As if. Ha ha ha ha ha.

——- Zoupa Zine ——-

Distractions

I had written topic headers for this issue and under Distractions, as if that were a separate thing were the following: Poetry - Legacy, Art, Quotation Memes - which ARE the distractions.

Early in 2022 several of my horoscopes indicated a couple times, at least, that I would be wise to let go of the past in order to make room for the new.

So, of course ... not.

I began to rummage around looking for 'the' source.

I found it. And it's very enticing. I need to be lashed to the mast.

The old poetry needs what? Republishing.

The Art? A venue ... perhaps. I want to experiment and scribble lavishly and not create, collect, and curate inventory. Not again.

And the Memes? I might be addicted to inspirational quotations. It is noteworthy to consider that I have hoarded quotations. They are not sorted or searchable. Things can be found linear, old school, accidental. As if accidents occurs. There's that.

What is not in the distraction museum?

The alphabet, the soup, the very words you speak, the zoupa.

There's medicine and magic in them recipes. Let's begin collecting YOUR recipes.

Here's an example of stirring the soup. I've always enjoyed this old Chinese saying: "Don't believe what they say. Go see."

When I'm fussing in the kitchen waiting for the water to boil ... I take some text and examine the ingredients.

Now, I might say that the new and improved old Chinese recipe sounds like this: "Believe or don't believe. Go see anyway."

Here also is an example of keywords. Most of what I'd like to share is right here. Yes, there's room for improvement. I don't know if I'll ever say it better.

Hobo Daze Parade
The 49th or 50th Annual

Down by the river
Rain checks available
And highly encouraged

——- Zoupa Zine ——-

I'm working on a little better organization so that I can tell you that this little missive is actually on a schedule.

Let's not hold our breath.

This morning, 3/30/22, I woke up to these writings, one after another, coming in over Facebook groups, and knew I needed to share them with you.

Firstly, I just finished reading Sand Talk: How Indigenous Thinking Can Save the World, by Tyson Yunkaporta. He's an Australian Aboriginal with some gripping vision to share.

https://www.amazon.com/Sand-Talk-Indigenous-Thinking-World/dp/0062975641

I was fascinated to read about how the Prussians intentionally created adolescence and the institution of public education as a means of civic control in the early days of nation-states.

He also talked about education and the necessity of moving from abstract to concrete. And joy.

“If people are laughing, they are learning. True learning is a joy because it is an act of creation.” - Tyson Yunkaporta

And that allows me to see that stirring the soup is a necessary demonstration of Zoupa and Alphabet Soup as a potentially helpful way to incorporate new recipes into your diet.

To Do

Make demos of Stirring the Soup

On to the reading of the day. Seth, Bashar, and others say that we create our own reality.

I think that's a little much to chew and swallow. Perhaps if we stew it tender and cut it up a little.

Here's the first demo.

I balk and puke when I read that I create my own reality.

If only it were better prepared. I create my own reality better under these conditions, at these times, with these people. There are conditions. There is room in the definition for movement and growth.

The phrase "I create my own reality" sounds like a yes or no proposition. When I see that I may have a little counter space, I can open the cupboards and check the tools and ingredients.

What do I have? What do I want/need?

That is a stirring of the soup. You hear or read something and by stirring the soup it gets examined.

I recently began to be introduced to the writings of Seth and Bashar. It sounded so very familiar. Oh yes, it's what I have been saying for 50 years now.

How do I say it better? Does it, the material, need another voice?

Funny as I am nearing the edge of this: as much as I take away the meaning of the words, by removing my attention to them, I become less affected by the sonic swirl. It's peaceful there - away from the swirl.

What follows are a couple recent readings from Seth, Bashar, and Vonnegut on Art.

And

——- Zoupa Zine ——-

"The rules are that you create your universe—that you create within the system that you know the world that you know. The rules are that within you there is knowledge... and that you must look inward, not outward, to find it. The rules are that this universe is created by the thoughts that exist within each of your minds... and that these thoughts are materialized outward. And that if your body becomes ill, it is because of an inner disease... and again, there are no exceptions. Ruburt is no exception, you are no exception, no one within your system is an exception. There are no exceptions. And these are the only rules, for you have been given what you always say you want... your desires— for what you think of is materialized... and when thoughts of resentment and hatred are materialized, you end up with wars. I have said this many times... the condition of your physical world is the result of your mass inner thoughts and desires. And your physical world is the result of your mass inner thoughts and desires. And your physical environments, your personal physical environments, are the results of your inner materialized thoughts. And there are no exceptions. You are responsible for the sunrise... you are responsible for the tides... you are responsible for the wars and the starvation."

—TECS2 ESP Class Session January 13, 1970

"You are concerned with what is wrong with the world. You want to know why it is not better than it is. You want to know how reality is created—how and why people create lives that seem to be less than desirable.

...You always help those you see—and they present themselves to you not only for themselves, but for others. You are examining the human condition, but seeking answers from the highest reaches of its capabilities. These are goals you set yourselves. If you set out to discover what was right with the world, you would be on a different path. There is much right with the world.

Give us a moment.... Be sure you do not close your eyes to the miracles of the world."

—TPS5 Deleted Session September 6, 1978

• "Now this is practical and it is the only real practicality. For if you hate, you create a hateful reality. And to the extent that you hate, you find reality hateful. To the extent that you fear, you create a fearful reality. To the extent that you love, you create a lovely reality. To the extent that you create, you create a reality full of creativity—and this is my message."

• "Each of you individually creates the reality that you know—and en masse, altogether, you create the reality of your world and your universe. There is no good within it in which you do not participate—and there is no evil within it in which you do not participate—and in which you have no part."

• "You create your own physical reality!"

—TECS1 ESP Class Session, April 22, 1969

——- Zoupa Zine ——-

"Now, before I say good evening, I have a few remarks to make. And, they are not new. And, they are not profound. They are very simple.

But, your happiness is not dependent upon events.

It is not dependent upon youth.

It is not dependent upon what seems to happen to you.

Now, happiness can be experienced in a very simple manner. And, it is so simple that often it escapes you because you try so hard.

Now, happiness comes from feeling within yourself the wonder and the joy that is within yourself.

And, there is no other way in any world of experiencing happiness.

You can not expect a lover to give it to you.

You can not expect a child to give it to you.

You can not expect events to give it to you.

It is yours by right if you claim it. And, if you do not claim it or if you turn your back upon it, then it seems to you ! that you must look for it in others or that others are always happier than you are.

Now, and all of you know what I am going to say, the tiniest cell within your tiniest toe is happy. Feel its happiness.

Feel the vitality that is your self as it always pervades your being.

It is within you now keeping you alive and sitting there so pert and pretty. So, acknowledge it. And, listen and feel within yourself for that life energy that is always within you.

Look at a leaf or at a teaspoon or at one of your children or simply at a shadow. And, feel the miraculous uniqueness of what you see and the miracle of the eyes that allow you to see it and the power of the brain that is able to make these connections. And, then, the happiness rides up through your being. And, you wonder how it was that you did not see it before.

But, money will not make you happy.

And, alone, love from another will not make you happy.

But, love of yourself will. And, it will lead to happiness for yourself and for others.

And now, I am going to say good evening. And, those blessings that I have, I give you. And, those I do not have, you will have to seek for yourselves. But, I suggest that you give yourselves your own blessings.

And, if you give yourself your own blessing, then you are triply blessed."

Your timing is always perfect, even though consciously it may seem to falter. You'll always be following your own program, always putting yourself right back on track in that way by showing yourself all those portions of yourself that you may not willing to look at, by creating situations that force you to look at them so that you'll continue with your program. You know what you wish to accomplish in this physical life.

~ Bashar ~ ; Introducing the Association, 1985

Therefore, what we perceive to be a negative situation, it's simply there to remind us that we need to view a certain idea of ourselves in order to complete the idea we have started in being physical. But when we choose to judge that we've created a negative situation we step outside our program in that way by 'becoming stuck in a loop'.

Bashar adds that the idea of 'being stuck in a loop' is the idea of judgment. We can realize that because change is the nature of things we don't have to force anything to change but we have to force something to stay the same way. By our judgment we become stuck in a loop and recreate the same problem over and over again. Because a problem is only a situation that we don't allow to change shape.

In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write a famous author and ask for advice. Kurt Vonnegut was the only one to respond - and his response is magnificent:

“Dear Xavier High School, and Ms. Lockwood, and Messrs Perin, McFeely, Batten, Maurer and Congiusta:

I thank you for your friendly letters. You sure know how to cheer up a really old geezer (84) in his sunset years. I don’t make public appearances any more because I now resemble nothing so much as an iguana.

What I had to say to you, moreover, would not take long, to wit: Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what’s inside you, to make your soul grow.

Seriously! I mean starting right now, do art and do it for the rest of your lives. Draw a funny or nice picture of Ms. Lockwood, and give it to her. Dance home after school, and sing in the shower and on and on. Make a face in your mashed potatoes. Pretend you’re Count Dracula.

Here’s an assignment for tonight, and I hope Ms. Lockwood will flunk you if you don’t do it: Write a six line poem, about anything, but rhymed. No fair tennis without a net. Make it as good as you possibly can. But don’t tell anybody what you’re doing. Don’t show it or recite it to anybody, not even your girlfriend or parents or whatever, or Ms. Lockwood. OK?

Tear it up into teeny-weeny pieces, and discard them into widely separated trash receptacals. You will find that you have already been gloriously rewarded for your poem. You have experienced becoming, learned a lot more about what’s inside you, and you have made your soul grow.

God bless you all!"

Kurt Vonnegut

Alright. Hasta luego.

In the next issue:

I’ll be as surprised as you.

Recently I wanted to run a bluetooth microphone along with some video I’m scripting. Well, I now have wandered hip deep into video production.

Hmmm
